Watering the young eucalyptus will mean their roots
Reach up, grow to the light, the particles of moisture;
And when surface-water is absent, there'll be no deep-
Searching roots to nourish or water the sapling, the tree.
It's a tipping-point, the lower leaves drying and falling,
That straggling look, that vulnerability to high winds
Or storm. How long to hold out? Howling for a downpour
When a downpour might knock them out; tip into death.
