I’ve been avoiding this time elsewhere distractions of now, thin The tissue pillowing haunted on my chest by local men filling my grasping moments & their dogs having a body Fiend for what had you for any Want residing conveniently in me sourced strange with no mercy My romantic nature There is at the genetic level an uncertainty principle My new chemistry holding up the refrain can’t stop I can cascade-lyric now more than ever falling from interior cliffs. I may have My mind resolved drifting to be my own now & then balladeer between concordant & Each beat dystopian a consideration but in every future A memory. It was I’m in love

Enter: Local Woman, an archetypal figure, fresh from the forest into the streets of Portland, Oregon. She is a Black trans woman, seeking survival and satisfaction, giving seduction, disenfranchisement, and the contradictions of femme womanhood a face, body, and soul.
"At the root of these emotionally searing and formally imaginative poems—at times irreverent, at times subversively poised—I recognize and affirm the most human of desires: to be accounted for by the world into which you were born, to see and be seen, to love and be loved. Jzl Jmz’s is a vital voice, to which I hope everyone will listen, and Local Woman a triumphant book I hope everyone will read."
