Malcolm de Chazal (1902 – 1981) was a Mauritian writer and painter. This is a selection from the Poems of Malcolm de Chazal (trans. Sara Nicholson) published in 2024 by Free Poetry. A second volume, the Selected Prose of Malcolm de Chazal, is forthcoming from Free Poetry in 2025. Free Poetry, funded by Boise State University’s Creative Writing Program, publishes books of poetics and poetry in translation.

Sara Nicholson is the author of three books of poetry, most recently April, all from The Song Cave. She teaches in the MFA Program at Boise State University.
